Rumors are beginning to suggest Google’s upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL may drop the 3.5mm headphone jack with new renders heavily suggest it won’t feature on the new phones.
Google Pixel 2 and XL 2:
The iPhone 7 wasn’t even the only 2016 handset to ditch the headphone jack or the first. But it’s only Apple that had to thoroughly explain its “courage” to ditch the aging audio standard while facing an increased backlash from potential buyers. A year later, people already assume that all new iPhones going forward will not have a 3.5mm jack.
This information comes via Stephen Hall, the managing editor of 9to5Google. However, he states that the info he has is based on the Muskie and Walleye devices. However, now that ‘Taimen’ has replaced the Muskie phone, it is possible that it might have a 3.5 mm jack, but the chances are very slim and for all practical it is safe to assume that both, the Google Pixel 2 and the Google Pixel XL 2 will bid goodbye to the 3.5mm jack this year.
The Google Pixel 2 and the Google Pixel XL 2 are expected to release in October, around the same time the first set of Pixel devices came out last year. The smaller of the two is being made by HTC while the Pixel XL 2 is being made by LG this year. Google is all set to take things to the next level with these 2nd-Generation Pixel devices.
It’ll be interesting to see how Google will motivate its decision to kill the headphone jack. And how it’s supposed to make things better for the Android device owners who purchased expensive headphones in the past, and which will not work without dongles.
Specification of Pixel Xl 2:
The Google Pixel Xl 2 will come loaded with a 5.99-inch Quad HD display, which will feature an OLED panel provided by LG, as per a report by XDA Developers. The smartphone is expected to sport a smaller bezel as compared to its predecessor, the Google Pixel XL. Further, the device is reported to be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.4GHz along with 4GB of RAM.
There will be a 128GB storage model, however, one could expect different storage configurations as well. It is reported to feature a single camera setup at the rear panel coupled with a dual-tone flash. Lastly, the smartphone is reported to sport a similar two-tone glass and metal design, though the glass window will be placed near the top.
Specification of Pixel 2:
The smartphone will feature a similar 4.97-inch Full HD display and will sport a similar design language as we have seen in original Pixel. Google is also planning to add stereo speakers at the cost of 3.5mm headphone jack, which means it will sport USB Type-C compatible headphone slot. The phone is reported to feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor along with 4GB of RAM and there will be a 64GB storage variant as well. One can also expect different storage models as well.
